You Say It's Your Birthday!

You read that right. HIVE is officially one year old. At this time, one year ago, Moorea, Lisa, Courtney, Nina, and I walked the sleepy late night streets of Oakland with several baked goods in hand, and it was then, that HIVE became a reality.

In September of 2017, we curated a set of musical and professional goals after officially singing together for the first time, and we are closing in on that deadline. As a group that occupies 3 different cities in the western United States, I am incredibly proud of what we set out to do, and what we have accomplished.

The most recent accomplishment happened just 10 days ago in Agoura Hills, when HIVE place 1st in Varsity Vocals' The Open. This win takes us to the finals held in Carnegie Hall, NYC , along with 6 other vocal groups from across the country, and includes one group all the way from London, UK.

We have also recently launched a Patreon page, where you can contribute to our music making journey, and receive behind the scenes footage, early releases, and special content just for patrons.

We have also released 3 official recordings (available on all platforms), and 3 official videos, featuring the arranging of Lisa Forkish & myself, video magic by Moorea Dickason, and styling by Nina Kasuya. We also have published one off-mic video featuring the heavenly voice of Courtney Jensen.

We've had the opportunity to perform in Boston, San Francisco, and Musicians Institute in Hollywood, and we are furiously booking future performances. We enjoy plenty of laughter, gluten, & home cooking during our retreats and rehearsals, and are forever grateful for Hud, Andria & Jeff, Danielle & Doug, Debra Byrd, Jesse Hellen-Lloyd, Kelley & Women's Audio Mission for making our retreats and rehearsals possible.

It's been an absolute joy to work alongside Bri Holland and Piper Payne of Neato Mastering to get our sound out there! Our first 3 singles include "Real Thing" written by Merrill Garbus & tUnE-yArDs, "Overcome" written by Laura Mvula, and our latest release "Queen Mab" music written by Becca Stevens and words from Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet.

We are currently working on several new tunes, including music by Krystle Warren, Fiona Apple, and we are really excited about some original material.
