Top 5 Varsity Vocal Performances

As a lover of a cappella I am so lucky to get to work part time for Varsity Vocals! They are the company that produces the ICHSA, ICCA and Open competitions. I am currently in the thick of producing the Southwest Region of the tournament (3 shows down, 2 to go!) Which leaves me with very little time outside of traveling, producing, and emceeing.

So I thought what better way to pay homage to the wonderful creativity this a cappella season gives us by sharing with you my top 5 favorite Varsiy Vocals performances. (in no particular order

VOCAL RUSH - HAVE MERCY - ICHSA 2017

Now this video isn't from their ICSHA finals performance, but it still captures the passion this groups brings to the stage every time they sing. They are inspiring advocates who do so much with their talents.

DIVISI - YEAH - ICCA 2005

It can't be a favorite's list without the OG's. Divisi not only changed how female a cappella was perceived, but also changed the way Varsity Vocals judged their shows. They were/are trailblazers. And during my collegiate career at BYU, I looked up to them so much, and they inspired so many women to go out there and be more.

SOCAL VOCALS - BANG BANG - ICCA 2015

This video doesn't do it justice...but the energy, performance, and overall attitude of the VoCals during the last song of their set in 2015 was electric. Everyone forgot it was a competition for 3 minutes, and danced in their seats, and enjoyed themselves.

WOMEN OF THE WORLD - ENTIRE SET - THE OPEN 2017

I have been scrounging around the bowels of the internet trying to find any trace of their set from the inaugural Open competition. But I have come up short. BUT that will not keep me from acknowledging how amazingly humble, talented, and kind these women are. If any of you ever have a chance to see them live...do it.

BYU NOTEWORTHY - HOW GREAT THOU ART - ICCA 2007

I hope this doesn't seem like I'm tooting my own horn, but this performance changed my life forever. singing with these women on the stage of the Lincoln Center, cemented my love for a cappella. It is the reason I continue to perform in the genre, as well as work for the amazing team at Varsity Vocals. This performance, was that defining moment for me. Which is why to me...it is one of my favorites.
